Census Mapping and Listing on course…With Kanchibiya District first to finish the race

The Census Mapping and Listing exercise has been successfully concluded in Kanchibiya District of Muchinga province. The exercise is being conducted in Central, Northern, Muchinga and southern provinces, as the last phase of Mapping and Listing.

Zambia statistics Agency (Zamstats) Kanchibiya District Mapping Coordinator, Mr. Webster Sikalumbi, has attributed the successful completion to his team of Map Data Collectors(MDC)that was so committed to work.

“The Team would set targets of work in a day and work long hours to achieve them. The support by civic leaders towards the exercise cannot also be overlooked and this made the team overcome some of the emerging challenges,” Sikalumbi explained. He adds that in some areas, some people were resistant to attend to the Map Data Collectors, but with the help of the Kanchibiya District Commissioner Ms. Malama Bulandina, they managed to carry out targeted interviews.

“The District Commissioner would address residents on the importance of the exercise and afterwards they cooperated with the Map Data Collectors,” he adds. All corners of Kanchibya District have been perfectly mapped and listed including Munikashi, Chambeshi, Lwitikila rivers and lake Chaya which needed to be crossed over.

Mapping and Listing exercise is still on course in other parts of the four provinces. The exercise involves Map Data Collectors to geo-tag buildings, housing units and other infrastructures, using tablets. The Map Data Collectors ask questions related to the use of the building and in case of a house, occupants are asked about the name of household head, how many are male and female who usually live there. Apart from houses, buildings such as shops, schools and offices are also covered.
