Mpika upbeat of Census activities.....

The Mpika District Administration will support the pilot Census and other Census related activities in a quest to attract investments and other projects in the area, District Administrative Officer Kaniki Bwalya has said.

Ms Bwalya said the District was delighted with the ongoing Pilot Census Training in the area and hence, it would support all Census related activities. She was speaking in Mpika recently when a team from Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) paid a courtesy call on her.

Ms Bwalya said the information on statistics was important in attracting investments and other projects in the district. "We will support all census activities because census statistics help to attract investments and other projects aimed at creating job opportunities. We urge citizens and other stakeholders to support the activities," Ms Bwalya said.

ZamStats has continued engaging and working with different stakeholders across the country as it prepares for the 2021 Census of Population and Housing. Currently, the Agency is undertaking training of data collectors on the pilot Census in Mpika District of Muchinga Province and other Provinces.

The training is meant to equip the data collectors with relevant information that will assist them as they collect data during the pilot Census. The pilot Census is pre- census enumeration activity that assists with the preparation of the actual Census.

Muchinga Province Deputy Regional Statistician Songiso Songiso said he was delighted with the commitment that the data collectors had showed during the training. He said it was imperative for data collectors to understand the equipment being used as that would enable them to collect quality information. ZamStats Census Manager Frank Kakungu urged the data collectors to be vigilant and to feel proud of participating in the national activities such as the Census exercise.

Mr Kakungu said this during his visit in Muchinga Province, Mpika district at the Zambia College of Agriculture were the training was held. The pilot Census training is currently underway countrywide.
