2020 Census jobs to be advertised soon, ignore fake adverts–Ministry of National Development Planning advises public.

Lusaka, 19th October 2019 - Government has dispelled an advert circulating on social media purportedly inviting members of the public to apply for 2020 Census jobs. Ministry of National Development Planning Spokesperson Chibaula Silwamba disclosed this in a press statement on Friday October 18th, 2019.    

Mr. Silwamba has since assured Zambians that adverts offering employment opportunities for individuals interested to be enumerators, supervisors and other portfolios in the 2020 Census of Population and Housing will be issued and circulated soon and will bear signatures of appropriate office bearers. 

He said the Ministry of National Development Planning which is the parent for the Zambia Statistics Agency – formerly Central Statistical Office (CSO), will place adverts in recognised and well-established media platforms, including but not limited to daily newspapers, radio and television stations as well as government websites, at the opportune time.

Mr. Silwamba explained that the Zambia Statistics Agency will follow government laid down procedures when engaging the personnel to assist conduct the 2020 Census of Population and Housing.  

He has since cautioned members of the public to be wary of fraudsters and ignore any unofficial adverts on the subject. Zambia will conduct the Census of Population and Housing in August 2020.

Meanwhile, the Zambia Statistics Agency is currently preparing for the Census Mapping and Listing exercise in the remaining nine provinces, namely: Eastern, Central, Copperbelt, Luapula, Muchinga, Northern, North Western, Southern and Western Province. Mapping has already been done in Lusaka Province.
