2020 Census Mapping to be rolled out.....as CSO commences Questionnaire Content Consultative Process with Stakeholders

Government through the Central Statistical Office (CSO) will next year, 2020 conduct the Census of Population and Housing. The 2020 Census preparations are in three key phases namely; Pre-Census Stage, Census Enumeration Stage and the Post Census Stage. Some of the pre census activities include the Census Mapping Exercise and the 2020 Census Questionnaire Content Consultative Process.

Census Mapping Exercise

The Ministry of National Development Planning, through the Central Statistical Office (CSO) will be conducting a full scale national rollout mapping exercise to cover each and every district of Zambia prior to the main Census in August 2020.

Following the successful completion of a pilot Census Mapping exercise that was conducted in Chongwe and Lusaka districts of Lusaka Province, the rollout Census Mapping exercise will begin with the remaining districts of Lusaka Province covering Kafue, Chirundu, Chilanga, Rufunsa and Luangwa districts. The exercise in these districts will start in the fourth week of May 2019.

The Census Mapping and Listing is an important undertaking and is basically a geographic listing process where a frame of all housing units including vacant ones, all nonresidential buildings, buildings under construction, schools, health facilities, municipal water systems, wastewater treatment facilities public transit stations, warehouses and boreholes, other structures and prominent features in an area will be compiled.
